Al went to see Dr. Jarvis at Arizona canine rehab https://www.azcaninerehab.com/. Dr. Jarvis is a Physical Therapist who works wonders through her rehab treatments. Alejandro started with a round of laser therapy and will continue treatments to strengthen his muscles. You can see him working hard with his Dog-gles on. He’ll be looking for a family to adopt soon.
Alejandro recently had a follow-up with our awesome partner vets at Bethany Animal Hospital in Phoenix. They checked all of those fractures and tell us that he’s definitely improving but still needs time to heal. We will be making an appointment with our fantastic Physical Therapist, Dr. Jarvis, to get some guidance on helping him to use his leg more and build muscle mass.

Meet Alejandro. He’s MAIN’s newest broken pelvis boy and will be adoptable soon. He’s 2 years old and was taken to the shelter as an injured stray. We’re not 100% sure of his breed mix but we’re positive “cute” is part of it.
He came into MAIN with a complete fracture of the left distal ischium, a complete fracture of the left iliac body, a complete fracture of the left ramus of the pubis, right sacroiliac luxation, possible fracture of the right ramus of the pubis and the fragment of bone surrounding the left coxofemoral joint is medially displaced. Phew! For us non-medical people that means, he has a crushed pelvis. His pelvis is basically broken in half, with those halves also broken into multiple pieces. The amazing thing is he can walk!
This boy is tough, so sweet, and doesn’t know that he’s got so much going on. This isn’t the worst pelvic fracture we’ve treated, but it’s definitely in the top 3. He’s tucked into his foster home with lots of comfy bedding and his MAIN foster sister, Stormy.
