Meet Pierre.

Pierre was picked up by animal control as a stray with a badly injured hind leg. He tries to walk on the leg, but just can’t. Instead, he holds the leg up against his body and hops to get around.

The shelter has started Pierre on pain medication, but he needs x-rays and sedation at a vet’s office to get a true idea of the extent of his injuries.

We often wonder what happened to these animals. In many cases, it’s a clear case of neglect or abuse…but in Pierre’s case, he was once someone’s pet!

He has a micro-chip that was never registered and he is neutered. Pierre waited, alone and injured for his family to come for him. When it became clear no one was looking for Pierre and he was at risk for euthanasia due to his injuries, M.A.I.N. stepped up to help.

Pierre will be seen at our partner vet and will recover in a loving foster home. We aren’t sure exactly what kind of injury we are dealing with yet, but at minimum we need sedation and x-rays.

Pierre’s Updates:

Pierre has been adopted by his foster family! He has two Poodle siblings and fit in so perfectly, his foster family couldn’t bear to give him up.

Medical Update, Sept. 23rd: Valley Fever and Tick Fever tests are negative. We suspect an issue with the hip. The femoral head on the lame side is a bit flattened and there is muscle atrophy in the corresponding thigh. Knees are normal on x-ray. In the meantime, Pierre is scheduled for another vet appointment and is on pain medication.
