Meet Chopper.

What must it feel like to be just a puppy, alone and scared at a county shelter with no chance of getting adopted? Fur falling out, skin swollen and the only reprieve from the constant itching to scratch and make yourself bleed?

Such was the case for this sweet young pup who was on the euthanasia list due to a severe case of Mange. Not only does Chopper have a horrible case of Mange, he is covered in fleas that have bitten his tiny body all over. At just four months old, we can’t imagine the neglect this poor dog has endured in his short life.

Luckily, M.A.I.N. stepped up to rescue him and give him a new name along with

his new life! Chopper will receive treatment at our partner vet and then recover in a loving foster home.

As committed as we are to helping these beautiful souls, we can’t do it without your help! Please share Chopper’s pictures and story and if you are able, donate to his medical chip-in fund by clicking the PayPal link at the bottom of the page. Thank you!

Medical Update, June 7th from the vet: Overall looks pretty good except inflammation from the skin. Valley fever, tick fever and heartworm are all negative.

Friends, we are VERY excited to announce that Medical Animals In Need has partnered with Hendrick Boards to help save animals together! They have created the “I am Their Voice” tee in honor of Chopper! With every purchase of the tee, Hendrick Boards will give us $10 to help with his care. Also, if you use the link to purchase other items (like a William Hoodie, bracelet or even a skateboard) every product gives back a portion to M.A.I.N. The purchase of a long board is a donation of $20…great gift ideas too! Check out Chopper’s tshirt and Hendrick Boards here!

Chopper’s Updates:

Chopper has been adopted! We are so happy for sweet Chopper and his fur-ever family!

_MG_3975A note on Chopper from his foster mom: Chopper is housebroken, knows “sit” and “wait” (for dinner). Now that his skin isn’t so irritated he LOVES luvs!! Bellyrubs, ears – it’s all good. He’s still a growing puppy and is a little lanky and uncoordinated but enjoys a good romp around the yard trying to keep up with his sisters. He prefers dogs and shows no interest either way for cats. Unknown around children, but is generally a little shy and laid back. Loud environments and/or continued high activity around him are not his preferred things but he’ll usually just try to nap until it passes. He currently has access to and freely uses a doggie door. Chopper doesn’t have an indoor/outdoor preference – he just wants to be where the other dogs are.

Update on Chopper, July 30th: Chopper is on the road to recovery! He had his FIRST negative Mange scrape today!

Update on Chopper, July 13th: Chopper’s eyes are getting brighter and bluer the better he feels! He has new fur growing in too.

_MG_4006Update from Chopper’s foster mom, June 17th: Today Chopper is more alert, six pounds heavier, taller, his legs are normal size, and he is overall doing well!  It’s the excellent vet care from BAH and just a strong-willed puppy! He takes his medicine and stands there with the shampoo like a champ. I itch from shaving my legs and think the world is ending – I don’t know how he and Julienne can be so sweet after knowing nothing but pain, hunger, and loneliness. They are the ones pulling through this – I’m the lucky one who gets to accompany him on his journey. This Chopper kid is something special!

Update from Chopper’s foster mom, June 7th: The bleeding sores are healing and the nasty scabs are clearing. Unfortunately, he’s still losing some hair but he is starting to walk a little taller and happier!

Medical Update on Chopper, June 3rd: Chopper has multiple pustules and a secondary skin infection in addition to the Mange. He will get special ointment for his face and skin.

  3. Thank you Diane! Be sure to check his web page for updates on his progress. He reminds us a lot of a previous Mange dog, Finn and we know he will have just as an amazing recovery! 🙂

  4. Good work! this little guy will recover. To the person that suggested using motor oil on any animal is very worng. It does cause many complications.
