Murphy5Meet Murphy.

The only thing we knew about Murphy before his rescue is that he couldn’t walk or stand to get to his food and water dishes at the shelter. We had no idea how this precious boy ended up with such a traumatic injury until after we got him to the vet and saw his X-rays!

We can only imagine he was hit by a car because, even though he has no road rash or other signs, the thought of this injury occurring any other way would be unimaginable.

The best news is that his prognosis is good and his broken bones should heal with cage rest…and this trauma hasn’t broken his spirit!

Everyone who meets him falls in love and can’t believe what a sweet boy he is despite his obvious pain.

Murphy’s Updates:

Murphy has been adopted! Congrats to Murphy and his furever family!

Murphey!Murphy’s Bio: Hi! I’m Murphy, a 10 pound, gorgeous long-coated, red-brindled Dachshund. After probably being hit by a car, I found myself at animal control. With my broken pelvis, I could hardly stand up, let alone walk. With cage rest and lots of baby steps, I recovered from my injuries. Whew! I now walk on a leash and play in the yard. I get along great with all my foster mother’s dogs, am great with people, and I am such a lover. Even after what I have been through, my personality remains awesome. Expect me to give you lots of kisses and snuggles! I am neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, de-wormed, and crate trained. A home with a secure yard would be best for me, as I need room to run and play. A doggie playmate close to my size would be the icing on the cake. Can you be my forever home? I am approximately one year old and my adoption fee is $150. Contact my rescue to set up a meet and greet with me!

Update on Murphy, July 4th, 2014: It is so awesome to see him be able to play. He gets along with everybody and just wants to have fun. His back legs are a little stiff, but Dr. Andre said that is to be expected at this time.

Volkstock, Murphy3Update on Murphy from his foster mom, June 5th, 2014: Murphy is taking more and more steps every day. I do believe he is healing! I still limit his walking, but now I think he would walk all over the yard if he could.

From Murphy’s foster mom, May 30th, 2014: I get to foster this special boy. He is on cage rest for at least six weeks. He was wanting out of his crate, so the vet said he can go outside on a leash, as long as he doesn’t walk much. Truth is, he doesn’t walk much at all – he just wants to lay in the grass and get a change of scenery. He also enjoyed his buggy ride today. Prayers for your healing Murphy – I want you to be able to run and play! He is sooooo loving with people.

  1. I am praying my parents will get me Murphy for my birthday! Its in 18 days and that is all I want is a dog best friend! One parent says yes and one says no. We will just have to wait

  2. I Just have one question. Does he get along with bigger female dogs? I happen to have a Golden Retriever who is a girl. She gets along with small male dogs as long as they don't bother her. Her biggest problem is when they sniff in the place dogs happen to sniff. Over time she gets used to them, but I wanted to know.
