She’s gone.
Our sweet Lily started to decline. Dr. Grant, from Heidi’s Village, came in on her day off to assess Lily personally. Lily was struggling with eating despite her feeding tube. She also had a new area on her side where the skin was starting to die. She was having some swelling, and she was having issues regulating her body temperature and blood sugar. The prognosis was grave. After talking at length with Dr. Grant, it was decided that the kindest thing we could do for Lily was to let her go. Little Lily was tired of fighting. We’re so sorry.
We always do cremation and a memorial paw print for all of our foster dogs that reach the Rainbow Ridge. Lily will go home to her foster mom who loved her through her last days. Thank you, Edith, for showing Lily the love and care she so deserved. That’s what she will remember.
Run free sweet girl. We’re so sorry that your humans failed you and so thankful we got to love you.

This is Lily, the newest MAIN girl. Lily was left at the shelter as a stray dog. She’s now the queen of our “hot mess” category. She’s 10 years old and although she doesn’t know it, her medical status is far from good and declining daily.
We believe Lily was badly mauled. This elderly and defenseless 9-pound, Shi Tzu girl had no chance of fighting off what had to be, a much larger animal. Now, she’s forced, once again, to fight for her life.
Lily has major dental issues, a fractured jaw, and severe deep lacerations on her neck and back. Those wounds have been cleaned and a drain inserted. Unfortunately, her wounds aren’t healing. Today, Lily went to have some anesthesia in order to have the wounds cleared again and she’ll be hospitalized overnight. Our vet at Heidi’s Village believes Lily may have necrotizing fasciitis which is a flesh-eating bacteria. This poor sweet girl can’t catch a break. The treatment for that diagnosis will mean Lily has to stay in a specialty hospital for her care.
In addition to all of her serious injuries, Lily isn’t eating. She’s drinking water but has no desire to eat. Her foster mom has tried so many things and continues the search for something Lily will eat.
We’re at the point where we have to get more aggressive with Lily’s treatment. She’s a fighter and we’re going to fight along with her.
