Apollo

This handsome and fun boy is looking for his forever family!

Apollo is 2 years old and weighs about 18 pounds. He is a Long-haired Chihuahua mix. He’s fluffy, soft, and cute. His foster mom says Apollo’s breed is actually “whatever the most adorable one is.” 😉 This boy is healed and wants his very own family.

Apollo is a lap dog and a cuddler. He loves bully sticks, and he will sleep in his crate, but much prefers the bed. Apollo is a polite boy. He takes treats nicely and gets along well with dogs his size and cats. He uses the dog door and walks well on a leash. While he’s on a walk, he does get intimidated by cars and people. Foster mom Melissa explained that Apollo is skittish about new adults until he warms up to them but absolutely loves kids. His one unmannered behavior is he occasionally marks. When he first got to his foster home, he did it fairly often, but with a lot of work from his foster mom, it’s minimal now.

Apollo is respectful of the pool and doesn’t object to the physical therapy work that is done in it. He tolerates his life vest and it being held on to during rehab, but his foster says Apollo probably won’t be much of a water kid.

Apollo update!

This boy is so darn handsome. He’s doing great with his injuries. He had surgery for his pelvic breaks. He’s been resting and spending some calm time in and out of his crate. Apollo is still shy with unknown people. That often happens when dogs have such severe injuries, but his foster family has been and will continue to help Apollo with that.

Apollo recently got to attend a very exciting party! So much was celebrated. 1) His friend Lilly celebrated her gotcha day, 2) His friend Addie found her perfect home last year, and 3) His surgery was successful. As you can see in the pictures, there were CUPCAKES!

Please welcome Apollo to the MAIN family!

This handsome boy found himself at the shelter after it was suspected that he was hit by a car. He was down in the hind end and unable to walk.

X-rays revealed that he has a badly fractured pelvis as well as a dislocated hip. The shelter reached out to us to see if we would be able to help Apollo.

To be honest, we’ve seen A TON of pelvic fractures over the years, and many heal just fine without surgical intervention. This is not one of those times. This is as bad as it gets folks. Take a look at these xrays.

Apollo is under the care of our partner vets at Heidi’s Village and will have surgery in the morning to repair his pelvis. Dr. Linney will also perform an FHO on the dislocated hip.

We need your help! Apollo’s surgery tomorrow will be in the thousands ($3200 – $4200 is the estimate), but he’s worth it! He’s the best boy, and he deserves a chance at a life free of pain, a life where he can just be a dog. He’s got a long road to recovery ahead, but we’re here for him every step of the way.
