Finley

Finley update!

This little guy is doing great. He hasn’t been able to have surgery on his foot yet, but it will be completed soon. Right now, he’s a happy little guy. He’s gained some much-needed weight.

We’ll let you know once Finley has his surgery. For now, we need some help with this boy’s medical costs. He’s having a plate and pins put in to repair his foot, and I’m sure you can imagine that’s an expensive surgery.

Thank you for always helping these medical kids get the treatments they need. We would not be able to save them without you all.

He is learning some tricks and manners at his foster home. He is potty trained to the door. Finley isn’t able to get through the dog door with that injured paw. Well, that and because he’s a peanut. He gets along with friends but is nervous around big dogs. He will sleep in his crate just fine but, he’d much rather sleep in the human’s bed.

Welcome to MAIN, Finley!

This little dude has the cutest underbite. He’s 2 years old, weighs in at 6.5 pounds, and is a Brussels Griffon Mix. The Arizona Humane Society reached out to MAIN specifically because, well, we love the Hot Mess kids. And let me tell you, Finley has it going on.

Finley presented with lameness, back pain, trauma to his spinal cord, dental disease, and he’s too thin. He also has to be neutered and that won’t be a simple procedure because he has Cryptorchid which means one of his man marbles never lowered so the vet will have to locate it first while neutering him. I told you, hot mess.

Finley had a consult yesterday with Dr. Linney, one of our partner vets at Heidi’s Village. The X-rays showed the following: Distal left hind limb turns outward with mild lameness. There’s semi-firm swelling just distal to the left tarsus. CP deficits of both hind legs. Seems uncomfortable with mid-lumbar palpation.

New X-rays show obvious fractures to the metatarsal bones…. It might be an older injury but there is still quite a bit of instability in the joint.

In layman’s terms, his paw is broken.

Options are surgery or amputation. Obviously, we’re opting for a surgical repair if that saves his leg. Arthrodesis will be performed. That procedure is commonly referred to as a joint fusion; the uniting of two bones at a joint will be completed through surgery. This will be accomplished with a plate. As soon as Dr. Linney makes sure he has the tiny plate needed for Finley we’ll schedule his surgery.

Here we are again, needing to ask for donations. Even at the low-cost rate, we have through Heidi’s Village, there will be a big stack of bills. Actually, they’ve already started coming in.
