Andy’s Story…

Andy was pulled from the county euthanasia list with a suspected spinal cord injury and immediately taken to Bethany Animal Hospital for further evaluation by our vets.

AndyUpdate from Kelly: Friends, it is with a heavy heart that I tell you that after careful consideration and on the recommendation of our veterinarians we helped little Andy cross the Bridge this evening. There was something very serious going on with his brain. Lots of neurological signs – tremors, tics, and circling and on top of it he was vicious to the point that no one could safely handle him. The diagnostic testing he would have needed was outside the scope of a non-specialist (ie: neurologist). We could have done a spinal tap but that would have only confirmed that something not good was going on. Andy was suffering and whatever was going on (likely brain lesions) was not going to be fixable. For everyone’s safety as well this was the right decision. With his propensity to bite (possibly caused by the lesions) and an unknown rabies vaccination history we could not take the chance that he would bite someone.

We had to give it a try to see if we could help him, but sadly there was nothing we could do. I always hate that part. I spent some time with him and told him I was sorry. I knew there would be no peace for him here. Rest in Peace, Andy…
