Sgt. Pepper at countyMeet Sgt. Pepper.

Sgt. Pepper is a tiny Poodle mix who was picked up as a stray and taken to the county pound; covered in ticks and matts AND with a broken jaw!

Sgt. Pepper was scheduled to be euthanized at the pound for his injury, but M.A.I.N. couldn’t let this sweet boy’s story end there. We have taken him into our rescue and he will recover in a loving foster home while receiving medical treatment.

Initial x-rays show an old jaw fracture, so who knows how long this poor pup has been in this terrible condition. Our vet has placed a wire and protective muzzle to keep the jaw stable for now and if healing does not progress, surgery may be needed down the road. We will keep everyone updated on his progress.

Along with his new life, Sgt Pepper has been given a new name! We wanted something fun that showed just how resilient this tiny five pound pup is. He may have a broken jaw, but he is NOT a sad dog! Sgt. Pepper will never have a “lonely heart” now that he’s safe with The M.A.I.N. Club!

Sgt. Pepper has already charmed his rescuers and foster momĀ  and we just know you’ll fall in love with his story too. Please, if you are able, donate to Sgt. Pepper’s medical care fund via PayPal below. Thank You!

Sgt. Pepper’s Updates:

Sgt. Pepper has been adopted! Congrats to this little cutie and his new family!

Sgt. Pepper looking GOOD!Update, April 7th from Sgt. Pepper’s foster mom: Well the Sargent Pepper is doing fantastic! I got to give his first treat today (mushy pb banana treat) and I have heard two official sorta-almost barks out of him (usually he just squealed). He’s so smart!

Update on Sgt. Pepper, March 18th: After Sgt. Pepper’s vet visit, we discovered Sgt. Pepper needed another surgery.Dr. Katie had to place another wire as his bone is not cooperating and healing how we had hoped. There is a possible surgery in the very near future to try and salvage his jaw.

Update on Sgt. Pepper, March 16th: Sgt. Pepper is doing well! We are just waiting for him to heal. In the meantime we have been working on crate training for housebreaking and he is doing well. He loves to snuggle and is my little shadow when he’s not in my arms. He knows he’s little and if he senses being under foot or when I wake up in the night, he send outs a warning noise so I don’t accidentally hurt him. He may be older, but he acts like a puppy. He gets very excited for play time and once his muzzle comes off he will enjoy playing catch. For now he just runs to the toy and nudges it back to me. With the arrival of a one year old in my house (for vacation) he became a whole new puppy! He loves kids and is very protective over my friend’s kid and sits by him when he’s playing or sleeping. He also bonded easily with my friends, so his forever home will be lucky because I’m sure he will transition easily. My little pepito (as we affectionately call him) has to go to the vet on Monday for X-rays so we can see how he is healing. He still has crepitus (a funny sound when you press) near his break so Dr. Katie wants to see what is going on with that. On a good note, when his muzzle is off, is lower jaw is straight and aligns well to his upper jaw.

sgt pepper and his foster momFrom Sgt. Pepper’s foster mom, Feb. 7th: Sgt. Pepper just had his neuter stitches removed. He’s doing well and even gained 3/4 of a pound, which has him right at five pounds. I think he needs to gain about another two; he’s so skinny.

From Sgt. Pepper’s foster mom, Jan. 28th: Sgt. Pepper is coming into his personality. Tonight he is exploring and much more confident. Every now and then he freaks out a little and screams. My other dog runs over and gives him kisses and takes “care” of him. It’s a happy pack. He’s also super smart- potty training is going well and he’s already learned to wait at the door. He’s just 4.25 pounds after his haircut!
