Paisley

We’ve got exciting news with a bit of a twist. Please be patient as I explain.

First, M.A.I.N. has saved three dogs in the last week. Nugget, Twink, and Paisley. Let’s dance about that. Second, the one with the twist is Paisley the pregnant pug, and this is the story of her.

Paisley is about 1 year old and was wandering the streets thinner than she should be. Thankfully, Paisley found herself at the shelter safe, dry, warm, and fed. Oh yes, and with a belly full of babies.

We check the County shelters and the AZ Humane Society priority placement portals several times per day for medical animals that need our help. I saw Paisley, and thought, aww she’s cute. At the time, her photo was stamped “transfer pending” which means a rescue had committed to bringing her in. I continued looking for medical dogs we could save; besides, we don’t “usually” bring in pregnant dogs.

Each of you, being part of the M.A.I.N. family, knows that we only bring in dogs that have a medical problem and are within hours of being euthanized. And that pregnancy is not typical in our medical realm. However, sometimes rescuers find a special circumstance that calls for stepping out of their ordinary. Pasley was due anytime so that belly full of babies was that special circumstance for M.A.I.N.

It was a few hours later that I checked the portal again and saw that Paisley’s photo didn’t have the stamp on it. Unfortunately, the original rescue had to back out. When I looked at her information, it stated that she was facing a spay within 24 hours. They’d have to abort those full-term puppies. No matter what, we weren’t going to let that happen. Not when the babies would bless this world anytime.

We found a foster home immediately and Paisley the pregnant Pug joined the M.A.I.N. family and we couldn’t be happier.

Please don’t make this political. Please don’t argue for or against saving those puppies. Please don’t squash the good, with negativity. Please don’t judge the shelter and their policies and lack of space. Let’s focus on Momma and baby belly being safe with M.A.I.N. and the privilege we all get watching new lives and Paisley blossom.

Stay tuned for updates and of course puppy pictures very soon.

Thank you M.A.I.N. family for your support and making this possible.

As always, we’re in need of donations for this girl and the bills have already begun. Paisley went to the vet the evening we rescued her, so we knew how many puppies she had. Pugs are known to have birth issues, so we needed to know how many should be delivered. Paisley needs milk supplements, high quality wet and dry food, deworming, spay after the puppies are done milking, all her shots, wellness visits, and licensing. She also has a vet appointment Monday morning because she’s scratching as if she has allergies from the foster’s Ryegrass.
