Lucy

Update – She is doing amazing!! No more splints or bandages and just one more compression sore to heal (that’s why you see the “leggings”…so she doesn’t lick her compression sore). She is acting like she is back to normal so we have to keep her watched closely, but she is the MOST obedient girl I’ve seen! Such a good listener… Here she is relaxing by the pool! She LOVES it outside.

Lucy is getting closer to being able to have her surgery. Here’s an update from her foster dad. “She went to be evaluated again for surgery….the good news is she was about 75% better than last Monday in regards to her pneumonia…the bad news is…she is still not cleared for surgery….very thankful to all at Bethany Animal Hospital for seeing her EVERY 3 days for bandage changes and anything else she needs…they have been amazing….I call and they respond! With her feeling a little better she has gotten a little mischievous and has had some runs to Bethany Animal Hospital because of chewing her bandages….she now wears a cone if we are not with her….through it all…this girl is by far the most chill dog I have ever seen…she tolerates everything with no resistance (maybe a little resistance with bandage changes…kudos to BAH!).”

We couldn’t agree more that Bethany Animal Hospital is truly amazing!

Meet Lucy. She’s 3 years old, a lab mix, and the newest girl to enter the MAIN family. Lucy’s front legs are a bit of a mess. BOTH legs have broken radius and ulna bones. The right leg break is comminuted and open. That means the bones are in fragments. Generally this kind of break occurs with high impact and is most often seen when an animal is hit by a car. We have no way of knowing what happened to Lucy but no matter what, she’s already begun a wonderful new life.

Lucy is resting with one of MAIN’s awesome foster families. She’s being sufficiently spoiled and has pain medicine to keep her comfortable. Lucy’s been seen by our partner vet at Bethany Animal Hospital and she has begun treatment to get those legs healed. Lucy will be shown the “rescue ropes” by Palmer; a previous foster in the same home. (Palmer fell in love with the family and adopted them.)

Lucy’s surgeries will be expensive. She has a long road of medical treatment and procedures ahead. We would appreciate any help with donations. If anyone would like to donate towards her medical, our PayPal address is medicalanimalsinneed@gmail.com. You can also call donations of $25 or more directly into our vet, Bethany Animal Hospital, at 602-242-1657. Let them know you are supporting Lucy with MAIN. You can mail a check payable to MAIN to: PO Box 758 El Mirage, AZ 85335.
