Ms. Jeannie is looking for her perfect family.
Jeannie is a 22 pound, 4 to 5-year-old wire-haired Jack Russel Terrier. She had been hit by a car in Tucson, AZ and needed urgent medical treatment. One of our volunteers made the four-hour round trip to bring Jeannie to Phoenix and into the M.A.I.N. family.
Soon after Jeannie’s arrival in Phoenix, she had femoral head ostectomy (FHO) surgery. Jeannie’s foster mom took such great care of this sweet girl and encouraged Jeannie to use that leg on walks and to utilize the stairs for strengthening. Now, here we are 10 months later, and Jeannie is ready to be adopted.
Jeannie is a truly sweet girl. She’s been out shopping and done very well. She’s also gone to the groomer without any issues. Jeannie doesn’t use a dog door. She’s housebroken by a regular door. Jeannie does get anxious about quick movement around her. For that reason, any child in the home needs to be 8 or older and must be able to understand and respect her fear. Jeannie’s two fosters have already helped her with some insecurities via socialization. With more help and time, the movement anxiety will likely lessen.
Like any dog, Jeannie needs exercise. Once it’s cooler, walks are great for her. Swimming is a terrific therapy after FHO surgery to keep the joint moving properly.
Jeannie loves to share your bed with you. She’s pretty fond of getting her belly scratched, and she will gladly follow you around and be your shadow.

Please welcome our 2nd recent rescue, Jeannie.
This little lady came to us from the Tucson (Pinal County) animal shelter. A kind-hearted Samaritan dropped her off there. The shelter doesn’t have resources for Jeannie’s injury, so M.A.I.N. was contacted to save her. A wonderful volunteer made the four-hour round trip to bring Jeannie to Phoenix, and one of our M.A.I.N. fosters offered to take her in.
Jeannie is a 6 to 8-year-old, 14-pound, sweet, and understandably scared wire-haired Jack Russel Terrier. We don’t know for certain, but Jeannie’s injury is consistent with being hit by a car. Right now, she’s allowed little activity. Thankfully, she has no fractures, but she will likely need FHO surgery. Officially, FHO means femoral head ostectomy. In layman’s terms, FHO = $3,000+. It’s one of the more expensive surgeries that we most often see. Jeannie is one of three we currently rescued that need this surgery.
Here’s the ever-present issue, we need donations. We’re low on money but have high medical bills.
When we say, “anything helps,” it really does. Whether it’s $2, $5, or more, it all adds up, and it ALL goes to our dogs’ medical bills and needs. Thank you all for always coming through for these kids.
