We received an email from Pinal County Animal Shelter “We just took in this baby (less than 2 months old). I do not know if he was bitten by something, hit by something or something else. His head, face and ears are swollen. His eyes and ears appear to be draining.”
Fortunately, we have become familiar with Puppy Strangles and we recognized it right away. Minnie, Toby, Brody and Sadie all came to us with the same disorder, and as awful as it appears (with marked swelling of the muzzle, eyelids, and face that give way to lesions that rupture, bleed, and crust) we have had excellent results with the treatment our other pups have received. So Kelly messaged Don and he took off on the drive to Casa Grande to pick up Connor.
Don messaged Kelly back after he arrived at the shelter and met Connor, “he’s just a tiny little guy, no more than 4 pounds – cute as can be!” then headed back to Phoenix for Connor’s appointment with our vets. He’ll be on prednisone for the swelling and augmentin for any infection plus eye and ear drops for a couple weeks, and hopefully that will get this little bundle of cuteness all back to normal.
He had a lot of new dogs to meet, and even a couple chickens – but, he took it all in stride had some fun, too!
We will – of course – post photos of his progress in the days ahead…
Update Aug. 17th: Connor has officially been adopted by his foster family! CONGRATS!
I love to see, kindness you give and I wish I had enough to share with the animals, but the best I can do is pray and give my two rescues love and security for as long as they are with me. A promise to them, when their is some extra, give to help one more at a time…
Connor is adorable! It looks like he is healing already. MAIN works miracles. Thank you for saving Connor and giving him a chance for a normal life.
He's healing REALLY well, LuAnn.. Thanks, we'll keep posting photos and videos of his progress!
Lorraine, we have seen a lot of miracles around here, so prayers are a BIG help! Thank you..
Thank you for the well wishes and kind words, Lorraine. 🙂
