Meet Candy.
Candy was rescued as a puppy…a little dog with a BIG disadvantage.
You see, Candy somehow found herself at the county pound and worse yet, with a medical condition that made her un-adoptable. Candy had Mange that caused her fur to fall out in places and her skin to be red and itchy. The worst area was around her neck, as you can see in the pictures.
Despite this, Candy is still a puppy at heart and enjoys chasing her fellow shelter dog friends around the room and snuggling with her rescuers. We know with proper vet care and lots of TLC Candy is going to grow up to be a happy, healthy dog!
When it came down to naming her, well, we couldn’t think of a name sweeter then…CANDY!

Medical Update on Candy, Oct. 17th: The vets estimate Candy at three to five months. For now, she just has Mange but we are always worried about secondary infections developing. She is a healthy, happy puppy otherwise and is getting Mange baths and Benadryl for itching.
Candy’s Updates:
Congrats Candy! Candy has officially found her fur-ever home!
A note on Candy from her foster mom: Candy is house trained with a doggie door and now I even leave her out of the pen when I am gone. She is not destructive as long as she has toys to chew on. She is kennel trained and sleeps in one every night. She is very inquisitive. Her foster sister will back away, afraid of something new but Candy will be right there investigating. She is too small to get on the furniture but she can hide under things from the other dogs. She loves other dogs, cats do not seem to interest her at all. She loves the dog park and boy, can she run with her short little legs. She is Chi part Doxie, I think. She does know how to play fetch and we are working on “sit.”
Update on Candy, Nov. 25th: Candy has had her first negative Mange scrape! Her next appointment is in December; that means Candy will be available for adoption very soon! If you’re interested in giving this adorable pup a fur-ever home, email us at medicalanimalsinneed@gmail.com
Update on Candy from her foster mom, Nov. 3rd: Candy isnow potty trained, yay! She is also crate trained at night. Very loving little puppy. Uses the doggie door now and loves to play with other dogs and toys. She gets her first skin scraping on Tuesday. Her hair is growing back in too.
