Belle

Our little Belle is now an angel…..

Belle passed away peacefully in her foster mom’s arms on Thursday evening. We wanted to give her foster family a little time to process the loss before we posted. Her ashes will be returned to her foster family so that she can be cherished forever.

Our options for Belle were limited, and neither option was ideal. Surgery was the option that would give her the best shot at a normal life. We knew the risks, but we owed it to Belle to take that chance. For her.

Our other option was to dope her up on meds until she died of starvation because she wouldn’t / couldn’t eat, as evidenced by her poor body condition. That’s not a life.

We chose to give her that shot…and even though we didn’t win this one, Belle won. She didn’t die in a shelter, but instead had a week of love and care around the clock. We think Belle would have chosen the same option.

Our hearts are shattered, but we keep on going for all the other Belles out there that need us.

Thank you Nic & Chell for being the very best foster parents, and loving her with all you had. We appreciate you, and we know that Belle loved you and was just as grateful.

Run free sweet girl. We’ll see you again one day.

Below are the details of Belle entering the MAIN family.

So we did a thing….

This teeny girl and alllllll her issues aren’t something we would normally take on, but since we weren’t able to do our Christmas Angel pull last year with Covid and all, we’ve decided to make a special pull!

Meet Belle, our Golden Angel. OMG she’s so sweet!

One of our fosters/adopters reached out to us after Belle was found as a stray, stumbling through a neighborhood. She wanted to see if we could get information on her once she was transferred from the ER vet to the Humane Society. We of course followed up on her, and when we got the call that we were the only option for this little one, we had to help. We figured it may be palliative care but you never ever, EVER know! She deserves the chance.

She’s a TINY but mighty girl at just over 3 lbs, blind, deaf and she’s AT LEAST 12 years old.

She made it to our vet yesterday where she had a chest x-ray and full bloodwork to see where she stands medically. Our vet did confirm she has a 6 out of 6 heart murmur, but she spent the day with her and did not see any signs of heart failure, and her lungs are clear! She did send the x-ray off to another vet we consult with to see if he recommends pimobendan aka vetmedin (a heart medication). So now we wait on the bloodwork results….

So far she’s settled into her foster home like she’s always lived there. She’s eating lots of small meals since she’s so malnourished, and no vomiting or diarrhea.
