Meet Zuri.
Zuri was wasting away at the county pound. Brought into the shelter as a stray and weighing just 28 pounds, Zuri is extremely underweight and malnourished…she surely would have died alone out there on the streets.
Zuri also has a very obvious issue going on with her paws- they are largely swollen and red with sores. We don’t know what these are yet, but we imagine it is very painful for Zuri, especially with walking.
What makes this even more heartbreaking is we are convinced this dog was once someone’s treasured friend. She knows “sit” and “shake a paw” and was very excited to see children in the shelter lobby.
We don’t know how this beauty ended up in this condition or why her former family didn’t find her…but we do know that she is safe now, with M.A.I.N.
Zuri is resting comfortably in a loving foster home and will be seeing our partner vet soon. We will keep everyone updated on her diagnosis and progress.

Zuri’s Updates:
Zuri’s has been adopted! Congrats Zuri and your fur-ever family!
From Zuri’s foster mom: It breaks my heart to say this, but Zuri is ready for adoption. She has gotten a bit plump, so I’m guessing just around 41 pounds. She has to be under 3 years old, but closer than that is difficult. She loves to play, loves fetch, NEVER argues or fights with the other dogs, is good with ALL people and children (except that she is still afraid unless secure at home) NOT good with cats however. She needs more work on not being afraid of new people in public places, but she IS better than at first. She loves to kiss and cuddle people when they visit my house, and she actually approached someone at the dog park the other day.
Update Sept. 1st: She’s almost ready to go. Two out of four paws look close to normal. The other two will take more time but it probably won’t be too much longer. The big wound between her shoulders is all pink and healed too. We’ve been working on the cat issue and really, this dog is amazing. That’s all I can say. Just amazing. Even my cranky, bitey Agatha PLAYS with her. Actually PLAYS.
From Zuri’s foster mom, Aug. 20th: She is gaining weight FAST, I’m almost not embarrassed to take her out in public now. Her feet are looking better, but it looks like some of her nails may never grow back (we’ll see-it’s too early to know for sure). She is super duper smart- I think she would thrive with agility and obedience training. She is being stubborn about the cat issue-I would never send to her to a permanent home with cats, her prey drive even overpowers her desire to be a good girl. She’s good with all dogs-even cranky ones. What else? Oh, she’s almost 100% potty trained even though she’s eating constantly. Her snotty cough is gone. And she’s GORGEOUS.
From Zuri’s foster mom, Aug. 17th: Zuri is doing fine. She has little scabs with hair attached that keep falling off of her, and she’s still got a little cough. Her feet are less swollen. All in all, she’s the same, but improved on all counts. I’m probably going to give her a real bath today-I think she’s ready. She is smart, beautiful and friendly!
Medical Update, Aug. 17th: All of Zuri’s bloodwork came back normal! The vets think the wounds on her feet could possibly be from running on the hot asphalt when she was a stray.
Any update on Zuri, weight? Age? Thnx
Hello,
I’m sorry nobody saw your question until now! Zuri is doing very well! Most of her toenails have grown back, and she is probably going to be ready for adoption very soon. She is under 3 years old, probably much closer to 2. she loves children and all dogs. I’m going to estimate her weight (which is perfect now)at about 40 pounds-certainly not more.
please don’t hesitate to contact me directly at abpositive3@yahoo.com
Thanks!
Alexis (Zuri’s foster mom)
