Meet Sheldon.
Sheldon was taken in from the Yuma shelter when they sent out a plea for help. This 10 week old puppy weighs in at just 3.8 pounds and has an obviously broken front leg.
M.A.I.N. wanted to help this sweet pup, so he made the trip all the way from Yuma to his new foster home! Sheldon has already been seen at our partner vet for X-rays and unfortunately the news isn’t what we had hoped for…
Sheldon has a luxated elbow, in addition to a fracture. The injury is old and the leg has no muscle tone. Because this injury is old and the leg has already started to atrophy, we are unable to save the leg and Sheldon will become our youngest tripawd yet.
Although this will be an adjustment for Sheldon and not what we had hoped for, the most important part is that Sheldon is safe with M.A.I.N. and we will help him along the road to health and happiness! As always, we will keep everyone updated on Sheldon’s progress.
From Dr. Katie: On the Xrays: the two red areas on the cranial/caudal view I’ve highlighted should be joined together. The red outline on the left is in the correct position. The free floating piece on the right is broken off, so the bones of the foreleg- the radius and ulna- are not held in position any longer.
Please, if you are able, donate to Sheldon’s surgical fund via PayPal below. The dogs only have us and we only have YOU! Thank You!
Sheldon’s Updates:
Sheldon has officially been adopted by his foster family! We don’t blame them for not being able to part with this adorable little guy- congrats to Sheldon and his official fur-ever family!
Update on Sheldon, Nov. 24th: Sheldon is doing very well. Being a tripawd hasn’t slowed him down one bit. He’s a very opinionated little pup and freely voices his likes/dislikes. I think his tiny size has confused our pack and he uses this to his advantage, buffalooing them and taking over our bed. He also seems to think he’s a hat, as he loves sleeping on top of our heads, lol. His favorite activity seems to be soaking up the rays in the grass. He has a very healthy appetite and his potty training is moving right along.
Update from Sheldon’s foster mom after surgery, Nov. 2014: He seems fine. He’s gone potty, took his antibiotics and is just hanging out on my lap. He’s not even crying- such a little trooper!
I was wondering if Sheldon is up for adoption…if so would I be able to see him. I have a 9 yr old “boggle” he is a Boston terrier/beagle. we had a boxer and he passed a year ago and bogie would like a friend. I own my own home and also work from home. What would be the cost for adoption? Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks
Hi Debbie! We did receive your application for Sheldon. It looks like at this time that his foster family is going to become foster failures and adopt him. We can review your application and see if we have another pup that may be a good fit for you.
