River Update
River continues to hang out with his foster brothers and humans. Health wise, he is doing well. He walks a bit stiffly on his back leg and often lifts his previously injured leg when he runs. With the hip injury he had, it’s difficult to get the tendons back to 100%. There’s a lot of strengthening that needs to be done but thankfully he isn’t in pain. It sure doesn’t slow him down a bit! He’s also on some supplements that are specific to the kind of injury he has. His foster parents continue to work with him on his fear. They’re doing leash work, x-pen quiet time, and socializing with the adult’s that visit his house. They are also in close contact with our partner vet, at Bethany Animal Hospital, who offers guidance and of course monitors River’s progress in all areas. MAIN paid a trainer that specializes in fearful dogs to meet with River and his foster parents. The trainer showed them some techniques to help with River’s anxiety. River doesn’t trust anyone other than his foster mom and dad. He’s a super insecure boy. His fear is at an ultra-high level which means he’s a (very slow) work in progress.
River’s health, both physically and mentally, has costs associated with it. That means MAIN is in need of donations. If anyone would like to donate towards River’s medical, our PayPal address is medicalanimalsinneed@gmail.com. You can also call donations of $25 or more directly into our vet, Bethany Animal Hospital, at 602-242-1657. Let them know you are donating to MAIN. You can mail a check payable to MAIN to: PO Box 758 El Mirage, AZ 85335.
Meet River. River was turned into the County shelter after he was found in the river bottom in Laveen, AZ. He had been out in the terrible storms in January 2019. River was in dreadful condition. He had a broken leg and a dislocated hip; along with several pelvic fractures. River was matted so badly that he had poop (and bugs) impacted in his fur on his rear end which caused sores under the fur on his sensitive skin. River’s leg and fractures have healed but his hip is still being treated. He’s also extremely afraid of many things and many people. River’s foster parents work with him every day to help him with his fears.
River’s medical has been expensive and it will continue to be because his hip is far from healed. If you would like to donate, you’ll see a donation area on the right side of the Medical Animals in Need website. 100% of every dollar goes to the dogs.
