Meet Randul. He is a 5 year old, Lab mix and as you can see, he is too darn cute. Randul was originally with a foster through the county shelter. However, after examining Randul, one of the veterinarians did a biopsy. They determined that Randul has Canine Transmissible Venereal Tumors or TVT. That diagnosis is beyond what the county is able to take care of due to the number of animals at the shelter, cost, and care needed. They reached out to MAIN and Randul is now part of the MAIN family and is being sufficiently spoiled at his new foster’s home.
Canine Transmissible Venereal Tumors grow on the dog’s genital area and, of course, are very uncomfortable. The treatments for TVT range from radiation and chemotherapy, surgery, medication, or any combination of these. This article offers some great information about TVT https://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/cancer/c_dg_transmissible_venereal_tumor.
