Meet Pippy.

Pippy is approximately two years old and was pulled from the shelter with a condition called “Happy Tail”…

Pippy was found as a stray, so his past remains a mystery. Unfortunately, Pippy developed a condition called “Happy Tail” that  made him go from being very adoptable to very UN-adoptable.

The concrete walls of his kennel have caused his tail to split open and his tail cannot be treated properly as long as he remains at the shelter. Contrary to the term, Happy Tail is actually very dangerous. Dogs end up with this ailment by wagging their tails so much that the concrete walls of the kennels split open the tips of their tails – causing infection in some cases and a bloody mess in most. Some dogs come into the county pound with Happy Tail, and others develop it after a short while. The danger, of course, is that it can make the dog go from being very adoptable to very unadoptable – through no fault of its own. They wag their tails and try to be as friendly as possible, and this is what they get for all of their hard work.

Pippy’s Updates:

Pippy has been adopted! CONGRATS!

From Pippy’s Foster mom: Pippy is a super happy, healthy guy just waiting to catch a break. Pippy is well trained and very smart. He walks well on a leash, knows sit, stay, come, lay, and belly (for belly rubs). He is potty trained, doggy door trained, loves to swim and hike. Pippy loves kids and people. He can easily be taken out to any public events or dog friendly restaurants. Pip almost never barks unless he thinks there is an intruder. Pippy LOVES treats and belly rubs more than anything and he will do ANYTHING t o get some. Pip is just an overall great guy. Everyday I am entertained by his antics and his quirky little habits. Pip would do best in an only dog home, or adopted into a family that is able to give him the structure he needs to live happily with another fur sibling. I would also recommend kids age 6 and up for Pip.

From Pippy friend and admirer, Kristin: He is very gentle and has a great impulse control (would not take food out of a kid’s hand without being told). I think he is mixed with Lab- he brings a lot somebody would look for in a Lab, ie loves the water, brings ball, eager to please. He knows sit and walks well on the leash and is crate trained. I honestly think he would easily adapt to almost every new situation/family. He definitely requires exercise, but not too much. He would make a great running, skating and biking buddy!

Pippy’s Petfinder bio: Hellllloooo everyone! My name is Pippy, an adoraBULL Pit Bull Terrier looking for my perfect, fur-ever home! My friends call me Pipp-eroni, Pipp-er-doodle, Pip-Pip-hooray or Pippy-do…you can call me any of those things because I’m just SURE we’re going to become fast friends! Let me tell you a little about myself. I was rescued off the county euthanasia list by my pals at M.A.I.N. I had a condition called “happy tail”- basically I wagged my tail so much that it kept hitting the kennel wall causing bleeding, sores and pain. That just goes to show you what a happy guy I am, even in a sad place like the pound! That’s all behind me now though and I’m ready to settle down in the perfect home.
I’m a real energetic guy and I would love to go to an active family that can take me on hikes and walks and give me lots of toys to keep me entertained! I’d make a great exercise buddy. My favorite game is for you to chase me when I have a toy in my mouth- boy, that’s fun! My other favorite thing is water- I love to swim! I’ve heard there’s a real big pool called a “lake” around here…maybe you could take me?! I think other dogs are great and would make a wonderful new friend for your dog at home.
Don’t worry, I have a mellow side too. I LOVE people and love to cuddle with my friends. I’m what you would call a “people pleaser” and I’m always eager to learn something new. I already know “sit” and walk very calmly on the leash. I’m also crate trained! I’m such a good boy, I’m sure you’ll want to give me lots of treats and I take them very gently from your hand. I have great manners!
I’m SO full of love, but I’m not so sure I want to share all my love with a doggy sibling and would do best as an only dog. I’m sure one you meet me though, you’ll find I’m really all you need! Set up a meet-and-greet with me today! I am approximately two years old and my adoption fee is $150. I am neutered, up to date on Bordetella, DHPP and Rabies AND come with my county license!

Pippy is a regular at our photo shoots and it’s no wonder! We LOVE seeing this guy and he is incredibly photogenic!

  1. I met a sweet dog with "happy tail" while volunteering at my local humane society (never had I imagined a dog so delighted and exuberant about people that he would wag his tail so overzealously against his kennel walls until it was quite literally a bloody mess, you just simply could not fault him for spattering blood on you because he was just so thrilled to see you. Eventually the tail did have to be amputated to avoid infection, has this been a consideration for sweet Pippy? I cannot believe that this beauty would ever be deemed un-adoptable. I would love her forever!

  2. Thankfully, Pippy made a full recovery and he is 100% happy and healthy…and ready for his furever! đŸ™‚
