Meet Louie.
Louie was found wandering the streets near a freeway as a stray when a good samaritan picked him up and brought him to safety.
Unfortunately this adorable young puppy has a condition that made him unadoptable and in need of a rescue.
Louie is positive for Sarcoptic (contagious) Mange.
At just five months old, Louie is a happy puppy and has no idea how close he came to not making it out of the shelter alive. Louie is now SAFE with M.A.I.N. and will receive treatment for his medical needs in a loving foster home.
Please, if you are able, donate to Louie’s medical care chip in fund via PayPal below. We will keep everyone updated on Louie’s progress. Thank You!
Louie’s Updates:
Louie has been adopted by his foster family! Congrats to Louie and his official fur-ever family!
Louie’s Bio: Louie is a typical happy and playful 5-month-old puppy! He was rescued off the euthanasia list as the shelter with mange, which made him unadoptable. He’s now completely recovered and has been enjoying life in foster! He’s ready to find his fur-ever family!! A little about Louie: Like all puppies, he LOVES toys!! And like all puppies he might chew something he shouldn’t so be sure he has lots of toys to prevent him from using your favorite shoes as a toy, LOL! He can entertain himself for long periods of time if he has lots of toys to play with and it helps if he knows you are enjoying the show too!! He also likes to play “keep-a-way” and “tug-a-war” with his toys. He has lots of energy and likes to run around in the back yard playing chase & pounce with the other dogs. He is very smart and can learn things quickly! This will make his on-going puppy training fun and easy! He would love to have someone teach him tricks and he is highly motivated by his stomach…YUMMY TREATS! He is a growing boy and loves his food so he will not let other dogs eat from his bowl while he is eating…who would, right?! He is curious about everything and likes to explore to see what he can get into, so like all puppies he needs to be watched constantly and should never be left alone for any length of time unless tucked away safely in a kennel or a puppy proofed room indoors. Louie is an awesome cuddler!! There’s nothing he likes more than being cuddled in the evening. You can hold him in your arms like a baby and he will fall fast asleep while you rub his belly.
He is kennel trained and sleeps quietly at night in his kennel until he needs to go potty in the morning. He has learned to use a doggy door and has not had any accidents in his foster home for some time, however he will need some training in his new environment, like any dog would, until he’s used to it. Louie gets along well with other dogs and would love to have a playmate! Any other dogs in the home should be tolerant of his puppy exuberance!! Louie has had very limited exposure to children, however we believe he would love to have well-mannered children in the home to play with him. He would make an awesome companion for a mature child that wants to teach him tricks, love him and play with him using their best appropriate dog skills…he’ll be your companion for life!
From Louie’s foster mom, July 2nd: Louie is growing fast! In two weeks, he is taller and heavier. He is extremely curious about everything!
From Louie’s foster mom, June 25th: Louie has mastered the doggie door and is officially potty trained (if you can really trust that a puppy is potty trained). We still watch him constantly since he is such a puppy, but he is feeling like he has his independence and has been exploring everything. He loves toys and is CONSTANTLY searching for better hiding places for his Dingo bones. When he is awake, he is a ball of constant activity. I have a hard time getting good photos of him because most turn out as just a blur.
From Louie’s foster mom, June 22nd: Louie is doing fantastic. Here are some photos of Louie’s ear’s taken 3-1/2 days ago after his first bath and this morning. What an improvement! I’ve been using Coconut Oil. In addition, Louie let me know for the first time this morning that he need to go outside to go potty. He responds to his name and listens really well. He is definitely a puppy and it has been fun having a puppy in the house again!
Update from Louie’s foster mom, June 19th: Louie had a good night and is feeling much better today. He is coming to life before our eyes. I was surprised how mellow he was for a puppy. Today he has much more energy. He even decided he had enough energy to chew up and finish off this hard puppy chew treat, which he would only hold in his mouth up to now.
