Meet Lola.
Lola is a four month old, four pound Chi/Pug mix taken in from the Arizona Humane Society. Poor Lola was surrendered by her owners due to her health issues.
Bile acid tests have confirmed the presence of a liver shunt in Lola. A liver shunt is a normal development while a puppy is growing inside the mother’s uterus. In a normal healthy puppy, this shunt closes towards the end of gestation.
Unfortunately in some cases- like Lola’s- the shunt does NOT close. This is dangerous because the liver shunt affects blood flow to and from the liver, preventing the liver from doing it’s natural job of filtering toxins out of the blood.
In very serious cases, some of these toxins can infiltrate the brain, leading to neurological symptoms and even seizures. Unfortunately, we have observed some neurological symptoms in Lola. She is being monitored closely in her foster home and will receive the very best of care at our partner vet. We are hoping the best for this sweet pup!
Please, if you are able, help us help Lola by donating to her medical care chip in fund via PayPal below. Every little bit counts! We will keep everyone updated on Lola’s progress. Thank You!
Lola’s Updates:
Lola’s foster mom has officially adopted her! Congrats to all!
From Lola’s foster mom, Sept. 2015: Lola tore up her fluffy bed in usual puppy style, so she now has a new Kong bed. She is chewing on the toy sent to her by Roadrunner Pharmacy. We’ll see how long it lasts. She has gained over a pound in her first week. Her mental status can still fluctuate but has improved. When she is ready to go for walks, she will be stylin’ hew new Martha Stewart collar and harness!
Lola watching the game but you are the best comercial and worth millions!
