Update – Grady got the ok from his doc to find and adopt a new family. Here’s a little about Grady. He is, of course, too darn cute. He’s 1 year old. He plays with all toys no matter the size (they have to be soft toys). He gets along with everyone. His foster family has seven other dogs, ages 16 to 2, all different sizes, all different personalities and Grady plays with them all. He’s been around young kids and he loves them as much as his friends. He’s also content to just hang out with his humans.
Grady needs a friend or he’ll get bored. He loves to run and wrestle and needs someone to do those things with him. Grady is potty trained with and without a dog door. He did great at the groomers. He does well on a leash. He loves car rides. He listens well and (so far) doesn’t have a stubborn bone in his body. He’ll never be able to have bones and hard toys because of the breaks he had in his jaw. This isn’t because he’s not healed, it’s just preventative treatment for his mouth.
Grady has been neutered, microchipped, and had all his shots. His adoption fee is $250.

Previously – Grady is doing well. He went for a recheck at Bethany Animal Hospital on January 3, 2020. We’re glad to say that he’ll be able to start eating soft food rather than mush and that his party hat and muzzle can go back to the closet. He loves to play with the dogs in his foster home. His foster mom actually has to stop him from playing at times because Grady has no idea that he’s injured. To say he has toddler energy is an understatement. He runs and runs in the yard, desperately wants to play with toys, wrestle, and chase the tennis ball. We’re thinking he’s going to be an unstoppable boy. He does have manners but loves to bark. He’s used to being groomed but loves the dirt. He wants to sleep with the human but will stay off the bed when told. Grady is that boy that makes you crazy and has you laughing all in the same moment. His foster people say they can’t wait to see him when he’s able to just be a young boy.

Meet Grady. Grady will be recovering for a while but we want to introduce him to you! Grady is a 1 year old Yorkshire Terrier mix who was hit by a car. His owner surrendered him to the shelter after taking him to the vet and finding out they couldn’t afford the extensive medical needed to fix him. We are thankful they made that decision in order to give him a chance.
Grady has multiple jaw fractures and broken teeth. X-rays of the skull/jaw show complete fractures with moderate displacement. The right side and left side of his jaw are in terrible shape.
Here are more notes from the shelter vet: examined pet while under anesthesia. In addition to mandibular fractures previously noted, the tissue in one of the areas around a fracture was avulsed (completely separated from the bone and there is severe laxity near right TMJ).
The shelter was going to attempt repair but the additional mandibular fractures were beyond the scope of what could be managed in a shelter setting. So here he is!
He was seen by our amazing vet for an exam and bloodwork and had his surgery on October 31st. He’s safely tucked into one of our foster homes receiving lots of love and good pain meds.
