Please welcome our newest MAIN girl, Dodie.
Yes, Dodie came into the shelter in this horrible condition. She is seriously emaciated, covered in ticks, has horrible diarrhea (she is Parvo negative thank God!) and has something seriously wrong with her right rear leg. She saw the vet yesterday for an exam. She received fluids and bloodwork. We hope to have results back ASAP so that we can work on getting her well.
Our hearts break for the sick and neglected dogs like Dodie, and we are sad that we aren’t always able to help. Luckily for Dodie, a foster home stepped up (THANK YOU DOUGLAS FAMILY!!!) so we rushed to pick her up yesterday. The next two photos are her freedom face and her first night in her foster home.
Thank you to the Phoenix Animal Care Coalition (PACC911) for their offer of HHF funds for Dorie. ❤️
Update April 23rd 2017:
Good morning everyone from Dodie, Emma, and I. We were able to pick up Dodie from Alta Vista around 345p yesterday. Thank you Kim for saving this sweet girl and getting her to the Vet and staying with her until we could get to you. Emma named her Dodie after her favorite YouTube musician that has beautiful eyes. Dodie walked to the Durango on her own. She does not weight bear on her right rear foot/hip. She allowed me to pick her up and place her on the seat we had ready for her with blankets and pads. She laid quietly next to Em all the way home and like Kim said, just wants to be close to you. We got her settled and just gave her time to rest and adjust. She quickly found her way into the crate, laid on her side, and completely stretched out in contentment like she knew she was safe and loved. She took her meds in hotdogs and ate like a champ last night. She only had one diarrhea stool. This AM I was greeted with tail/bootie wiggles and face kisses. You can see in her video, she has a great appetite. We picked off more dead ticks and trimmed her nails with no complaints. Lots of petting and massages for this love. The only time she wimpered was when I lifted that rear leg. She is resting again now.
Update April 24th 2017:
Dodie had a LONG, warm bath this morning and she loved it. After washing her, I filled the tub with warm water and she soaked, falling asleep with her head cradled in my hands to keep it above water (hence no hands available for pics). Lol. Afterwards she gave a good shake and dried a bit in the warm sun. She is doing great with her food – added in some steamed rice today and she’s tolerating great. No diarrhea for over 24hrs. Waiting on a formed one now (the things fosters get excited about 😉) She has an appt at BAH at 420 – after school so Emma can go of course!!
Update 9-12-2017
Dodie update: cocci (VF) is 1:32 so it’s going down!! (was 1:64)! She’s HW negative, t4 and free t4 (both thyroid tests) normal and chemistry and CBC normal. All good news!! She’s up to 41 lbs from 33 lbs at intake.
Great job Amy Jo! And check out how great she’s looking here playing with Tino at the vet’s office!
