Meet Dallas!

Dallas came to us the first of January 2012. Her owner had turned her in to MCACC west to be PTD. They claimed she has skin issues and their vet could do no more for her. The only relief that was every offered to Dallas was a change in food and cool baths with clear water to relieve the burning. Dallas was banned from coming indoors and the two kids she had grown up with were no longer allowed to play with her.

The first thing we noticed was that Dallas’s feet were huge. There was nothing but dirt and infection packed between her toes. She could barely walk and would leave a trail of bloody
footprints. Her body was covered in huge lesions and the smell was awful!

Once she was in the care of BAH she was immediately shaved and given pain medication. Her diagnosis was demodex mange with secondary infections.

There was a question that maybe some of Dallas’s lesions were caused by chemical burns. The worst were in areas of pressure points. From the information provide by the previous owner we learned that in an act of cruelty, she had removed all of Dallas’ bedding so all Dallas had was the hard floor to lay on with open lesions oozing. She also told us she was cleaning the area that Dallas was restricted to with a strong cleaner. So poor Dallas was forced to stand and lay on a floor that was burning her skin.

Dallas’ Updates: Dallas has been adopted and will finally know all the love and care she didn’t receive in her former “home”!
