Diamond

Meet Diamond! She’s the beautiful, approximately three-year-old, Chihuahua mix. Diamond was turned into the AZ Humane Society, skinny, seriously injured and pregnant. She had multiple puncture wounds and a badly fractured jaw. We don’t know for certain what happened to Diamond, and we’d rather not think about that idea that it is human related. The great news is, she’s mended wonderfully and is looking to adopt her own family.

Diamond’s puppies were born while she was at the Humane Society and what a wonderful mom she’s been. Not only did she need immediate treatment for her fractured jaw, but she then had a little family to care for. Thankfully MAIN brought her into the rescue. Diamond found herself, and her pups, in the home of an absolutely amazing foster mom who committed to taking care of Diamond and those four cute babies. (M.A.I.N. never separates a mom and her puppies.)

Diamond’s jaw was so damaged that it was inoperable. The only treatment was for her to wear a muzzle for eight weeks. That didn’t stop this tough little girl from being a fabulous mom. Diamond’s foster mom was sure to give her a diet that not only allowed her to gain weight and strength but she was also easily able to keep the pups fed. I’m sure you can imagine the time, love and dedication it took by their foster mom to keep everyone happy and healthy!

Diamond enjoys a simple life of having a comfy bed, sleeping in your bed with you, or just on a soft pillow. Diamond has learned to turn down the covers on her foster mom’s bed! Diamond’s other simple pleasures are human love and human affection, being taught that not all humans are bad, and having reassurance that she’s safe. Diamond has done well around the dogs at her foster home; however, she can be dog sensitive as well. She would do just fine as an only dog and needs a yard to run, play, and chase tennis balls in. Diamond loves walks and she’s learning basic commands. She can eat food normally but even with her jaw completely healed, it will always be sensitive and cutely crooked. Due to Diamond’s uncertainties and anxiety, at times, she needs an experienced dog owner and confident leader who will understand her and help her continue to grow.

Diamond is housebroken, spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and licensed. Her adoption fee is $250. If you’d like more information about Diamond or to meet her, please fill out an adoption application or contact us at medicalanimalsinneed@gmail.com.
