Meet Winston.

Winston3Winston was abandoned at the county pound with a broken jaw and no hope of finding the loving home every dog deserves.

So he waited…for help to come or for The End.

Winston needed a life-line and M.A.I.N. was happy to step up for this sweet boy.

Winston will receive the vet care and surgery he needs for his broken jaw while he recovers in a wonderful foster home.

And the best part? Winston WILL get that chance to find his perfect fur-ever home.

Please share Winston’s story and pictures and if able, contribute to his medical chip-in fund by clicking the PayPal link at the bottom of the page. Thank You!

Winston’s Updates:

Winston has been adopted! A random meeting at our partner vet led to Winston’s furever home- his new mom has been following his story and waiting for him to be cleared for adoption! Congrats Winston!

W14A note on Winston from his foster mom: Winston is quiet, shy at first, He is five yrs old so not so playful. He loves to be with his parent and will play with soft toys and Serena (his doggy foster sibling). He would do best in a home with another dog, I think because he would be more comfortable. Unsure how he is with children. He walks great on a leash better than Serena. House trained with the door. He is scared of the doggie door. I gave up after two months using it. No food aggression or toy aggression. Sleeps in a kennel at night or bed if they allow it. Not a big barker but will bark when someone comes to the door. Is ok with strangers. Quiet, loving dog!

Update on Winston, July 25th: Winston got his special jaw protector off yesterday! He has a vet recheck in two weeks to see if he needs additional surgery. So far, he is healing well!

W1Update on Winston, July 3rd: Winston was seen at BAH yesterday for recheck. He weighs 8.6lbs which is good for his size. Dr. Andre said she moved his jaw around and was very pleased. No more pain medication but we are still doing the antibiotics, which he hates. He gets his next immunizations next week and than we can recheck the jaw in two weeks. We are having issues with separation anxiety and general fear. I am trying to be loud and noisy to expose him to different sounds. He is not a big barker though.

Medical Update on Winston, June 17th from Dr. Katie: Winston needed all but three of his teeth extracted during surgery; his mouth is nearly as bad as Chai’s. I was able to place a wire across his fracture to stabilize it to a degree but time will tell how well he will heal.  Fortunately he’s a lot better with his muzzle than some Chihuahuas I could name! We will re-check in one week.

From Winston’s foster mom, June 16th: Winston will be having surgery in the morning. I suspect he has been abused- he is very timid and afraid of any touch. He is slowly learning to let me touch him. He has never been on a leash, you can tell and I think he was an outside dog mostly. Onward to a new and better life for the little guy!

  1. I met Winston and foster parent at BAH today when I brought my Chi., Tiny, in. Tiny is fast approaching his end of life. Old age and various ailments are just not getting any better. I wasn’t going to look for another dog until Tiny was gone, but I met Winston and he changed that. He was stressed from the visit and parent said he had been through a lot. He won’t be able to go anywhere for at least a month. If possible, I would like to meet him again. I think he would fit into my lifestyle. I live alone on disability, and have a one yr.old grand daughter who is just tickled when Tiny comes around. I babysit a time or two a week. We have already taught Inara that animals are very special and we treat them with respect and love. She amazes us by how she is so gentle with Tiny. That’s the biggest excitement in my life except to walk to get the mail and around the block daily. He will be an “only” pet as I would like to give him good vet care and better things a dog could have. If you could contact me, my # is at BAH, or with Sue the Groomer, under Tiny Dozer c/o Suzanne Dozer. We hope for a speedy recovery, Winston. Sincerely, Suzanne Dozer.

  2. Hi Suzanne. Winston is a special little guy. He has definitely been through a lot. We have no idea how long he lived with horrible teeth and a broken jaw, but his life definitely changed the day the shelter called us to see if we could help him.
We would love for you to meet Winston again. I will send you an e-mail so that I can put you in touch with his foster mom you met yesterday. She can make arrangements for you to see him again. Our e-mail address is medicalanimalsinneed@gmail.com ❤ Kelly
