Inspirational Pups of 2012: Fonzie

profile3I fostered 32 wonderful dogs in my home this year, but Fonzie really tugged at my heartstrings.

I kept imagining what it must have been like for him.. Surrounded by kids and being kicked in the head until his jaw had broken. The fear that he must have gone through – and all the time wondering why? What could he have possibly done to ever deserve any of that?

And, to think of what he might have been like with kids for the rest of his life, because of that ordeal… The apprehension, growling, snapping when they got near him.. And who could have ever blamed him?? But, that’s not our Fonzie. Every child (and adult and dog and chicken) is loved by this beaten and abused little soul and I am SO fortunate to have been able to foster him for awhile.

In a day where one misstep or a simple disagreement between two people can end a wonderful friendship forever – here is this pup that has every reason to act out, yet chooses not only love – but an enthusiasm and a heart as big as Texas instead! This little man has definitely taught me a lot about forgiveness and moving forward.

  1. Oh I so remember the first time I saw little Fonzie at the shelter, jaw broken and hanging at such an unnatural angle… Broke my heart. -Kelly

  2. My most inspirational dog would be my very own Cyrus. Left in the shelter for weeks on the elist with a broken leg…he now thrives with life each and everyday. He was my first foster for MAIN and we adopted him before he was even medically cleared LOL. I was too scared someone would snatch him up. Cyrus whom we have dubbed Buggy in our house as a nickname. He is still named Cyrus and will answer to both has captured hearts everywhere. He is our “Beautiful Child”. Thanks for giving Cyrus that song Don as it fits him so perfectly. And thank you MAIN for saving this boy and allowing us to bring him into our home to heal!
