EmilioMeet Emilio.

Emilio was brought into the county shelter with an injury to his hind end. Although he can walk, his back legs often “give out” on him, causing him to slip to the ground.

Emilio was kept comfortable with pain medicine and initial X-rays were done at county, where it was confirmed he has a pelvic fracture. We aren’t sure how this happened, but we suspect the little guy was hit by a car while he was a stray on the streets.

This wasn’t an easy fix, so the shelter reached out to us hoping we could help this sweet little guy.

We never cease to be amazed at the pain tolerance these dogs have! Emilio is a tiny dog with a big injury, but he is still so loving to everyone he meets!

emilioxraywithrockThe xrays at our vet showed what we expected with the displaced pelvic fracture…but they ALSO showed that Emilio has a ROCK in his stomach, which may actually be more worrisome than the fractures at this point. For now, Emilio is on cage rest and pain medication while we work with our vet to decide the next step in his care.

As always, we will keep everyone updated on Emilio’s progress. Please, if you are able, donate to his medical care chip-in fund via PayPal below. Thank You!

A special thank you to Chi Town for taking great care of Emilio until we could make him a part of the M.A.I.N. family!

Emilio’s Updates:

Emilio has been adopted! Congrats to Emilio and his fur-ever family!

Emilio4Emilio’s Bio: Hey, Emilio here. I’m not very big, but I’m a total love bug. I love dogs, cats and people, but let’s be honest here, I do feel more comfortable around smaller dogs. (I’m little, so big dogs make me a little nervous). I’m very well mannered and am happy to sleep in my crate or cuddle up with the cats and the other small dogs. I guess I’m not very high maintenance. When I first got here things were hard and I didn’t feel so well. The M.A.I.N. folks turned all that around for me. I had to stay in a crate for quite a while, until the fracture that I had healed. Then they found a big old rock in my stomach, so they had to take that out. More time resting in the crate. Well I’m all better now. Recoveries all done and I can prance around and play to my heart’s content. I am a really social creature and love all the humans I meet. I’ve come a long way in a few short months and would love to find a home to call my own. I promise to take care of my humans and make them feel loved. Just looking for someone to permanently snuggle up with. Could that be you???

Update from Emilio’s foster mom, Aug. 12th: Emilio had the surgery to remove the rock from his stomach. I was shocked at the size of it! It was almost the size of a quarter and thick. How he ever ate it is beyond me because he is a petite little guy. He is on bed rest for awhile. He is gonna do great. He is such a sweet little fella.

Emilio3From Emilio’s foster mom, Aug. 5th: Emilio is on crate rest for his broken pelvis. I take him back  to the vet for a check up next Monday and at that time, they should determine the next step. That rock has me worried. It looks so big I doubt he passed it. I hate to keep him kenneled (for his crate rest) so I have a shallow plastic crate that is good size. I made a comfy bed for him and he stays right by my side. He’s so good he doesn’t try to jump out. He’s a perfect little boy.

From Emilio’s foster mom, July 29th: This boy is as sweet as they come! I carry him around with me or he just lays right by me. He is such a great little fella. Not very crazy about the big dogs if they get too close, but he sleeps in the bed perfectly with the other small dogs and cats.
